MASON CITY — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving squad jumped into the new season with a 129-53 victory over Mason City in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference meet.
The visiting Bobcats won all 12 events, finished 1-2 in half of them and swept the top three spots in two events.
Leia Hernandez and Emma Case had the most lucrative performances in the pool, each picking up four first-place finishes. Hernandez won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle sprints and was on both winning freestyle relays, while Case captured individual titles in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke and was on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay squads.
Case was chased to the wall by teammates Alex Lasack and Zoey Pals as the trio finished 1-2-3 in the 100 backstroke, with Case winning in a time of 1 minute, 11.09 seconds.
The Bobcats also swept the diving competition, as junior Harlie Fletcher posted a 175.45 to lead teammates Ella DeMonte (149.80) and Allison Rodemeyer (148.55).
Addison Elmore and Adele Beek were both a part of three victories for MHS, starting with the first event of the evening. Elmore, Beek, and Emma and Rachel Case chased up a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.44.
Drea Ceren (2:17.82) led fellow Bobcat Belle Gard to the wall in the 200 freestyle, while Beek (2:33.09) paced Elmore in the 200 individual medley.
Elmore won the 500 freestyle (5:57.79) ahead of Ceren, and the Bobcat quartet of Beek, Libby Meyer, Rachel Case and Hernandez followed with first place in the 200 free relay.
MHS swept the backstroke, Beek won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.42), and the foursome of Ceren, Elmore, Emma Case and Hernandez closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (4:10.47).
The Bobcats are back in the pool with their first road trip on Tuesday at Fort Dodge.
